Project Objectives:

  1. Showcasing the difficulty of the dirt road — dust, rough surface, and physical strain.

  2. Transitioning visually and emotionally into the Nullarbor’s gates.

  3. Maintaining tension while highlighting both exhaustion and determination.

Project Scope:

Pre-Production:
Planned sequences to capture contrast between the rugged dirt road and the symbolic “entry point” into the Nullarbor.

Production:
Filmed the demanding dirt track in wide shots of desolation and close-ups of Jason’s fight through the terrain. Transition shots captured the shift into the vast openness of the Nullarbor.

Post-Production:
Editing emphasized the physical toll of the dirt road, followed by a slower, more spacious rhythm when reaching the Nullarbor. Color grading highlighted earthy tones of the track against the golden horizon.

Delivery:
Released as Episode 3 of the YouTube docu-series Run Across Australia.

Results

  • Captured the most challenging road section before entering the Nullarbor.

  • Viewers felt the grind of the dirt track and the psychological weight of “stepping into the unknown.”

  • Reinforced narrative progression from endurance to survival.
